Instagram: How to Market Your Designs

Instagram: How to Market Your Designs

You may be in the midst of starting your creative journey online. Getting your name out there is hard. Trust me. I know. Last year, I decided to start posting some of my illustrations on my personal Instagram account. This was very nerve wracking for me because I was scared of people copying my work or just not responding well to it. Come on... who really likes getting 10 likes on one post? Art is a product of your mind. So letting your baby out into the world can be a scary thing because you do not know how people are going to react to it.

How exactly have I grown my following on social media through my art? Well it was a little easy because I know a little bit about how social media works as a marketer. I want to share some of that with you! If you follow some of these strategies, you can start to grow your presence on Instagram and get more people to follow your work!

Creative Hashtags

The hashtag is a powerful thing. That little number sign can connect so many people to your account throughout the Instagram community. If you look above, I placed a variety of relevant hashtags to this image...let me repeat that one more time...relevant. Some people think it is clever to put popular hashtags like #kyliejenner but in reality you are only driving people who do not care about your work to your profile. This is what you want to avoid. You want the right audience visiting your profile so you get a meaningful follower who is actually a fan of your work.

Commenting

Always make an effort to not just like people’s comments but to respond as well. This is a great way to connect with people who could potentially be someone who might want a commissioned piece of art!

Constant Content

Make it a goal to at least post once a day. This will keep people familiar with your work. It is a great way to grow as a designer as well. It challenges you to try new things as a designer so at the end of the day you have more skills than before. This is one great thing that I have gained from posting a lot on Instagram.

Geotagging

Geotagging is the bomb when you use it! You can gain local followers that may potentially want to do business with you. You can be as general as you want. Sometimes I tag Texas, Houston, or Austin. It just depends on what I post and where I am.

Account Sharing

You may have a large following on another social platform. So make sure you connect your accounts to what you post on Instagram so your other followers on Facebook or Twitter can see what you are creating!

Marketing Research

Keep doing your research! There are so many ways you can continue growing online like starting a blog or creating videos. Teach yourself how to be a better designer and marketer through the power of the web.

Good luck with your social journey creatives! Feel free to asks me questions or reach out to me on my Instagram at @victoriarosadesign. Or shoot me an email at victoriarosadesign@gmail.com.
